Consistency and Photo Vogue

I finally broke my dry spell with Vogue.

I submit every week and the last time my submission was accepted was in January.

I keep a library and stay up every Sunday night until 11 so I can submit my two images, every week.

I have been doing this for three years now, every week. Some say that I am prolific and I would agree, I am always creating, with the hustle in mind and holding myself to a standard to continue growth.

Capture 2022 with Beau photo, Closer.

Join us for a photo walk and investigate the details around you. Try lenses from the rental department with the digital group, or a roll of ILFORD film for your camera with the analogue crowd. Each group will walk from Beau, and for about 90 mins, observe our surroundings and photograph the details that interest us. We will be available to give you shooting tips and to provide inspiration. Even being able to have everyone participating together brings us all closer. After the official walk, you can continue on your own to explore the things and people you want to keep close to.

Each photographer will have one image selected for printing on ILFORD Gallerie paper that will be displayed in an exhibition at the shop.

Space is limited to 10 people per group so we will select 10 participants for the digital group and 10 for the film group by lottery. Walks will follow all provincial health orders in place at the time of the event and the format of the walk may need to be adjusted according to the current guidelines.

The exhibition will be on view in the Beau Photo gallery space from April 24 to May 28, 2022.

We will also publish an online gallery in this space with more of the images from the walks.

I was on my own after winning a spot in the analogue lottery. I choose a roll of 120 mm film and choose to photograph those I want to get closer to. Connections I want to cement, to get closer. Not in a romantic way, in a way that creates an authentic connection.

The image that was selected is the first one on the roll. I hope to see you at the show.

Stickers! From sticker Canada.

#StickerCanada reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in a collaboration.

Of course!

Their correspondence was quick, effective and easy. I ordered some 2”x2” square Art Paper Stickers (Uncoated). I choose the illustration I did because I wanted to print it square. I had previously done it as a circle, I like the square better. I like the texture of these stickers and would not hesitate to order more.

Thank you, Sticker Canada for reaching out and for the amazing collaboration. I look forward to using you again in the future for all of my sticker needs.

What do you call two hat tricks in a row?

What I mean is that I have had my 6th image published in Vogue Italia.

So is that two hat tricks in a row? Or is it just a sixth time?

Doesn’t roll off the tongue like other times but it has me over the moon with excitement.

I worked with Farah from Charles Stuart International, outside at a safe social distance to make some urban feeling images after being inspired by the latest All Saints spring 2021 campaign shot by two of my favourite photographers.

The series is called where the summer is because summer is here in Vancouver and it is fabulous outside right now. I shot a roll of expired Agfa Optima 120mm film with my medium format Bronica Zenzia camera and 80mm lens. I love that camera right down to the vintage luggage strap that hangs it around my neck as I wander around during shoots. It is no Hasselblad (the dream-hello universe, can you hear me? My birthday is July 5) but it certainly does in a pinch. What do you think of the flawed colour photos? I love the flaws, for me, they are the heartbeat of photography.

Back to you guys, how are things?

I am in the cue for my second shot and that has me feeling pretty hopeful. I want to hear from you, are you hopeful too?

Mind blown, two images published on the same day.

Vogue Italia accepted both of my submissions this Monday and I think you may still be able to hear me squealing with glee.

The squeal is the fact that the model, Saina is wearing my designs. Yes, you read that right so she is wearing my continuous line illustrations, transferred on to thrifted clothing. I style all of my shoots and this one, I had this in mind and I choose these images specifically to post to Vogue. Every Monday morning I submit two images to a portal on Vogue and now I have a portfolio up there.

Pinch me.

A dedicated photography website and a 3rd feature in Vogue Italia.

I have spent some time separating my drawing from my photography.

I have some lofty goals and it fits to have them separated. I have been working on this for the month of May, there have been a few technical glitches that held me back, they were email only. Nothing to do with SquareSpace. I love this platform, it is so easy to work with and the moment you have a problem or a question someone is there to help you and guide you through.

So please check out my new site www.deannaflinn.com

In other news I was featured for a third time in Vogue Italia.

This is Axel with Charles Stuart International Modeling Agency. Axel is a musician and a music engineer, he was wonderful to work with, so much energy and great in front of the camera.
